Jeff has been a tutor with Athabasca University since 2001. During this time, he has tutored courses for the Centre for State and Legal Studies and, since 2002, for the Centre for Social Sciences. Specifically, Jeff tutors Governance (GOVN), Political Economy (POEC) and Political Science (POLI) courses located in CSS.
Jeff holds a Bachelor of Administration (Public Administration) from Athabasca University, and a Master of Arts (Public Administration) from Carleton University in Ottawa. While attending Carleton University, Jeff worked as a teaching assistant in the areas of public and constitutional law.
Jeff's professional career experience includes the Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG) and initiatives on behalf of the National Research Council of Canada in relation to its role in the creation and development of the “National Guide to Sustainable Municipal Infrastructure.” Jeff's own contributions related to the implications of this initiative for elected officials and senior municipal administrators.
As a former AU student, Jeff is intimately familiar with the issues engendered by distance learning. While conventional university studies and distance learning studies have much in common, there is a qualitative difference in the nature of self-discipline, self-motivation and organizational skill required of distance learning. However, Jeff believes that the successful completion of distance learning studies will imbue any individual with valuable talents and skills, with which to prosper in their professional career.
As a tutor, Jeff sees his role as one of facilitating both the successful completion of courses and programs, and helping students to fulfill their academic talents and skills. He enjoys the opportunity to both learn and work with students, tutors and academic staff.
